My second-year field site placement is through the San Francisco Department of Public Health. I'll be working at their Dimensions clinic that allows me to work with Queer youth and their families in an integrated behavioral health setting. This is a running journal and commentary around the growing movements in the field of social work for MSW students to be compensated for their field work.

So many online trainings. They're all interesting, and they're all a reminder that I have to do the same trainings that city employees do, yet I don’t get the same benefits as them, nor am I paid. A lot more to come in future journals not being paid – some times I wonder if internship sites just get people to sign up who are down to not be paid? I did consent to an internship that is not paying me, does that make it my fault now? I’m really looking forward to all the things I’ll learn here, I just wonder how the looming rain cloud of bills and debt will counteract my willingness to do a “great job” when I’m not being compensated for my work.
